Privacy policy

The Universal Birth Registration (UBR) campaign is an international campaign run by Plan Limited on behalf of Plan International, Inc. Plan Limited is registered in England under Company No. 3001663, and is a subsidiary of Plan International, Inc. (a not-for-profit organisation incorporated in the state of New York, USA), whose registered office is at Chobham House, Christchurch Way, Woking, Surrey, GU21 6JG. For the purposes of this policy, 'Plan' refers to Plan Limited including its associated companies and foundations.

Plan will comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 (and any amendments to that Act).

We use the information we collect about you to help us understand more about how our site is used and to be able to send you communications about Plan that may be of interest to you. This information will be referred to in this policy as 'personally identifiable information'. Personally identifiable information is information that enables us to identify you for the purposes of gauging site use, and provision of Plan communications to subscribers (you). This may include your email address, name, title, and address.

This policy governs all pages hosted at www.writemedown.org and registration for that site. It does not apply to pages hosted by other organisations to which we may link and whose privacy policies may differ.

Please read the following policy explaining how your personal information will be treated. This policy may change from time to time so please check back periodically.

  • What personally identifiable information will Plan collect?

    Plan collects the following information from visitors to www.writemedown.com including: what pages are accessed, and information volunteered by you, e.g. email address, country location and survey information.

  • Why does Plan collect this information?

    Plan uses the information we collect about you to help us with understanding more about how our site is used and to be able to send you communications that may be of interest to you.

  • Who is collecting your information?

    When you are on www.writemedown.com and are asked for personal information, you are sharing that information only with Plan.

  • What choices do subscribers have about the collection, use and distribution of information?

    If you indicate that you are interested in receiving regular information about the Campaign we will send you regular communications, either electronically or otherwise. Plan will not sell or rent this information to anyone.

  • What is Plan's policy on updating, correcting, or deleting personally identifiable information?

    If you change email address or any of the other information we hold is inaccurate or out of date, please email us at: info@plan-international.org, or write to Plan International Headquarters, Chobham House, Christchurch Way, Woking, Surrey GU21 6JG, United Kingdom with the details.

  • With whom does Plan share personally identifiable information?

    Plan will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information, except when we have your express permission or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it. Plan does not sell on lists to others.  As described above, this policy involves Plan Limited including its associated companies and foundations. Such associated companies and foundations may include, without limitation, Plan Limited, Plan International, Inc., Member Organisations, National Organisations, Country Offices, and Regional Offices. Personally identifiable information may be useful, for instance, to any of the above, and while Plan Limited will fulfill the function of data controller with regard to that personally identifiable information, such information may be passed on where relevant.

    Personally identifiable information contained in the UBR petition (your name, email address and country) will be presented to key people (within national governments) who can make a difference in making Universal Birth Registration a reality.

  • How does Plan protect my personally identifiable information?

    Plan will take all reasonable steps to protect the personally identifiable information that you provide us with. When you provide Plan with personal information, that information may be stored and processed outside of the UK. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed and while we strive to protect your personal information, Plan cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us. You do so at your own risk. However, once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.

    Terms and conditions

    Use of this site is provided by Plan subject to the following Terms and Conditions.

    1. Your use constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions as at the date of your first use of the site.

    2. Plan reserves the rights to change these Terms and Conditions at any time by posting changes online. Your continued use of this site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of this agreement as modified.

    3. You agree to use this site only for lawful purposes, and in a manner which does not infringe the rights, or restrict, or inhibit the use and enjoyment of the site by any third party.

    4. This site and the information, names, images, pictures, marks and logos regarding or relating to Plan are provided "as is" without any representation or endorsement made and without warranty of any kind, express or implied. In no event will Plan be liable for any damages including, without limitation, indirect or consequential damages, or any damages whatsoever arising from the use or in connection with such use or loss of use of the site, whether in contract or in negligence.

    5. Plan does not warrant that the functions contained in the material contained in this site will be uninterrupted or error free, that defects will be corrected, or that this site or the server that makes it available are free of viruses or bugs or represents the full functionality, accuracy and reliability of the materials.

    6. Copyright restrictions: Commercial use or publication of all or any item displayed is strictly prohibited without prior authorisation from. Nothing contained herein shall be construed as conferring any licence by Plan to use any item displayed. Documents may be copied for personal use only on the condition that copyright and source indications are also copied, no modifications are made and the document is copied entirely. However, some documents and photos have been published on this site with the permission of the relevant copyright owners (who are not Plan). All rights are reserved on these documents and permission to copy them must be requested from the copyright owners (the sources are indicated within these documents/photographs).

    7. Plan takes no responsibility for the content of external Internet Sites.

    8. Any communication or material that you transmit to, or post on, any public area of the site including any data, questions, comments, suggestions, or the like, is, and will be treated as, non-confidential and non-proprietary information.

    9. If there is any conflict between these Terms and Conditions and rules and/or specific terms of use appearing on this site relating to specific material then the latter shall prevail.

    10. These terms and conditions shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales.

    11. If these Terms and Conditions are not accepted in full, the use of this site must be terminated immediately.
